Many spray foam rigs also use spray foam inside them for the obvious reason of additional insulation from cold and hot temperatures. This is usually an option, however many spray foam rig suppliers build it in as standard.
Floor and Wall Coverings
You will also see a variety of different floor and wall coverings to protect from equipment damage and chemical spills. The use of diamond plate metal, durable polyurea or polyurethane coatings, and plastic type sheathings arecommonly added as protective options.
Lighting
Lighting is also very important in a rig, because most all machine and auxiliary maintenance takes place inside the rig. Some spray rigs offer skylights for additional light, but is a good idea to have onboard lights installed for this reason.
Work Area
Since we are talking about maintenance, another common option is a pre-installed work bench, tool box, and vice to work on machine and spray gun components. It also common to see storage cabinets installed to store commonly used equipment and consumable items.
Safety Equipment
From a safety standpoint, all spray rigs should be outfitted with a proper fresh-air supplied breathing air system with enough capacity and air hose length to accommodate all workers in and around the active spray zone.
Another important safety option is the installation of an emergency eye wash station. This can make a huge difference in the safety of the workers in case of an accidental exposure to the spray foam chemicals. Accidental exposure often occurs during sloppy procedures during equipment maintenance.
Heating and Air Conditioning
We mentioned earlier that temperature conditioning is very important in a spray rig for both operator comfort, but more importantly for chemical storage and use. For this reason, many rig suppliers offer heating and air conditioning as an option, or standard.
Hose Door
Installation of a hose “doggy door” for the heated hose to exit the rig without having the main doors open another small but valuable benefit in keeping the rig at the optimum temperatures. This allows you to work on the job with the doors closed to maintain temperature, or even locked for security reasons.
Hose Rack
Last but not least, is the hose hanger for storing the massive lengths of hose in use. Many of these hose storage systems are securely mounted to the wall near the door of the trailer to accommodate quick and easy access of the necessary hose length.
Temperature Recirculation System
Another common addition to a spray rig is a hose heat recirculation system. During the start-up process of your spray foam machine, the hose heat often takes the longest to come up to the proper temperature to be ready to spray. This can often take 20-30 minutes or longer depending on the machine and hose system. A recirculation system allows to run the machine and the primary heaters without loss or use of chemical. The recirculation system can either be at the machine or the end of the hose in place of the gun. It essentially runs the machine in full heat capacity in a loop back to the drums, allowing for faster warm-up of the hoses, and the material in the drums. This is a valuable time saver.
